We have Obagi Medical, PCA Skin and Mesoestetic products available, and Dermoperfection’s expert clinicians can help you choose based on your skin type, tone, concerns and goals.

Sometimes it can feel difficult to make time for yourself, but this can have such a positive effect on our wellbeing! And if you want to make aesthetic treatments part of this time, we’re here for you 7 days a week, with many treatments that take an hour or less but still give you fabulous results!

The goal at our clinic is to create “the best version of you” – this means your most confident self! For example, if acne is knocking your confidence, you’ll love our INTRAcel Pro and Mesoestetic Microneedling treatments, or if you’re concerned about fine lines and wrinkles, Profhilo and anti-wrinkle injections are just two of our most popular options.

Tackle a body hang-up

We’re not just specialists in facial rejuvenation – we’re here to help you feel fantastic all over, and we have plenty of treatments that can be used on the body too, like ULTRAcel Q+ HIFU, which contours the body and tackles stubborn fat permanently.

These are just a few examples of resolutions and some of the treatments that can help, but you can find out more by booking a free consultation at our medical skin and cosmetic clinic. We look forward to making 2023 your best year yet!

Dermoperfection’s Botox aftercare guide

What Do I Need to Do After My Anti-Wrinkle Injections?

You’ve made the decision to visit one of our highly trained medical practitioners at Dermoperfection for your Botox injections, but what happens afterwards? Getting the most out of your cosmetic treatment isn’t just about what happens in the chair. The right post-Botox care plays a huge role in how quickly your results develop, how natural they look, and how long they last.

Botox is short for Botulinum toxin, a purified neurotoxin that works by interrupting the contractions of the facial muscles that cause expression lines and facial wrinkles, meaning the targeted muscles are unable to crease the skin anymore. Like all minimally invasive injectables, Botox involves very little downtime, but the way you treat your skin in the hours and days following your appointment can make all the difference to the quality of your final results.

Here’s our complete guide to caring for your skin after Botox.

What to Expect Immediately After Your Botox Treatment

Knowing what’s normal after Botox can take a lot of the worry out of your post-treatment experience. Straight after your appointment, you may notice:

  • Small red marks or tiny bumps at the injection sites, which usually fade within a few hours
  • Slight redness or mild swelling around the treatment area
  • The occasional small bruise, particularly if you bruise easily
  • A mild headache, which is more common in the first day or two

Most patients are able to return straight to their day, including work, after their Botox injections. The overall Botox recovery time is minimal, but you won’t see any results immediately, as the neurotoxin needs time to start interrupting muscle activity in the targeted area.

How Long Does Botox Take to Work?

Patience is key when it comes to Botox. The first thing to remember is that optimal effects take a few days after your initial treatment to begin showing, with most people noticing a softening of fine lines and wrinkles around days 3 to 5. Two to three weeks after your treatment, you will see the full results, when the targeted muscles are completely relaxed and the skin appears smoother and more refreshed.

If you don’t see immediate changes, don’t panic. This is completely normal and to be expected.

Your Essential Botox Aftercare Do’s and Don’ts

To get the very best from your treatment and avoid any complications, here are the key post-Botox care guidelines we recommend.

Don’t Hit the Gym Straight Away

For the first 24 hours following the treatment, you will need to take it slowly to give your new injections time to work and to avoid the Botox spreading to unintended areas. Wait a few hours before light exercise, such as yoga or jogging, and a full day before getting back to your normal exercise routine.

Avoid Alcohol for 24 Hours

It’s best to book your Botox appointment when you’re having a quiet night-in later, as alcohol thins the blood and can lead to bruising in the affected areas. You should also avoid over-the-counter anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen for the same reason.

Don’t Go Out in the Sun

Sun exposure raises your blood pressure and flushes your skin, which is another cause of bruising around the affected area. Avoid sunlight as much as possible for the first 48 hours, as well as tanning beds, saunas, and hot tubs. Once the initial 48 hours have passed, daily sunscreen should still be a non-negotiable part of your routine to protect both your skin and your results.

Don’t Apply Unnecessary Pressure

The treated area should be left alone as much as possible for the first few days, so avoid facial massages and any tight clothing or headwear. Try not to sleep on the side where the Botox was injected, and resist the urge to rub or touch the area, as this can cause the product to migrate from its intended position.

Give Your Skin a Break

You should avoid using any exfoliating scrubs on your face within the first 24 hours. You should also avoid other skin treatments and cosmetic procedures in that time. Dermoperfection’s medical professionals are well-trained to ensure we do not combine treatments where it is unsafe to do so, and your practitioner will advise on the right timing for any future treatments.

How Long Will My Botox Results Last?

Botox results typically last between 3 and 4 months, though this varies from person to person depending on factors like your metabolism, the area treated, and your lifestyle. As your facial muscles gradually regain their muscle movement, fine lines and wrinkles will start to return, but in many cases, lines will appear softer than before thanks to the treated muscles being out of action for several months.

To maintain your smooth, refreshed appearance, we recommend maintenance treatments every 3 to 4 months. Over time, regular Botox treatments can actually train the muscles to relax further, meaning some patients find they can space their appointments out as time goes on.

When to Contact Your Practitioner

While anti-wrinkle injections are incredibly safe when administered by a qualified aesthetics practitioner, it’s always reassuring to know what to look out for. Get in touch with our team if you experience:

  • Severe or worsening pain at the injection sites
  • Significant swelling that doesn’t subside after a few days
  • Drooping of the eyelid or brow
  • Difficulty swallowing, breathing, or speaking (extremely rare, but seek immediate medical attention)
  • Any other concerns about how your skin is reacting

In the vast majority of cases, recovery from Botox is smooth and uneventful, but it’s always good to know what’s worth flagging.

Listen to Our Team

You can be assured you are in safe hands with us, and we will give you all the best aftercare tips during your appointment so you can go home without any concerns. Patient care is at the heart of everything we do, so if you have any questions before, during, or after your treatment, do not hesitate to bring these up with us. Our team is here to support you throughout your entire treatment journey.

Birmingham’s most trusted clinicians are here to bring back your confidence back – let’s unveil your “power profile”!

How we create a more defined jawline with our male patients!

Looking to create a more masculine look or a “power profile”? Perhaps you are looking to restore definition to your jawline? Well you’re in safe hands with our medically trained team!

We all want to feel our very best, so if you see something you are not happy with, we can help. Lack of definition in the jawline is a common complaint, and dermal fillers are a great, instant treatment to add or restore lost definition.

Losing definition in the jawline is often down to genetics, however it can also be because of a loss of collagen and elastin due to age, as collagen production tends to slow down once we reach 25. This can also be caused by health conditions like osteoporosis, or facial trauma/injuries.

But our medical team is here to help with the perfect placement of dermal fillers to give the most natural looking results! This injectable is used to enhance, contour and define facial features, with instantaneous results.

At Dermoperfection, we only use the leading dermal filler brands, including Juvéderm. Their world-renowned fillers are hyaluronic acid based, which is a naturally occurring substance in the body, meaning your filler results will look natural!

How long do the jaw filler results last? Well, that depends on the individual, however you can expect jawline fillers to last for up to 18 months! Then you can book top-ups to maintain these incredible results.

For each patient, we create a bespoke treatment plan – you can also combine other dermal filler goals into one appointment, such as adding volume or balance to the lips, filling fine lines and wrinkles, lifting and projecting your eyebrows and adding volume to the temples.

If you are looking for the best clinic to perform your jawline fillers procedure, visit us at Dermoperfection, in The Mailbox, Birmingham.

All you need to know about Profhilo aftercare

What should I expect following Profhilo? This is what we are often asked about one of our most popular injectable treatments at Dermoperfection!

As Profhilo is minimally invasive, you can expect little downtime and can resume most normal life shortly after, however we do have some aftercare recommendations so you can see optimal results.

Avoid rubbing the skin too hard

You may see small deposits initially after treatment, but this usually settles after a few hours. You don’t need to massage the skin for this to go down.

Don’t go to the gym straight away

We suggest for the first 24 hours following treatment to avoid strenuous exercise, so you can give Profhilo time to work and to avoid it spreading to unintended areas. We also recommend not visiting any spas or saunas in this time.

Schedule for when you’re having a night in

This is because make-up should not be worn for the first 24 hours, and alcohol should be avoided in this time too, as it increases the risk of bruising.

And book in advance of any trips

Since extreme temperatures can affect the healing process following Profhilo, ensure you book your Profhilo treatment at least two weeks in advance of holidays (this will also mean you see optimal results whilst you are away)!

Use a daily SPF to protect your skin

We believe SPFs should be used daily no matter if you have had a treatment or not, or what time of year it is, but it is especially important to protect your skin following Profhilo, as it will be more sensitive. Here at Dermoperfection, we have SPFs from leading medical skincare brands like Obagi and PCA Skin!

Use arnica to clear bruising

It’s normal to see slight bruising following any injectable treatment, so arnica can be helpful when this appears. Do not use ibuprofen or aspirin in the first 48 hours to soothe the side effects. You may also benefit from using a cool compress on the skin following your Profhilo treatment (do not apply ice directly to skin though).

Do not book in for other aesthetic treatments for the first two weeks post-treatment

This includes facials, skin peels, microneedling, waxing and IPL. However, trusted clinicians like at Dermoperfection will never book a patient in when it is not safe to do so.

These are our top aftercare pointers following Profhilo, but we will run through everything you need to know during your consultation. And if you have more questions, feel free to ask our expert team!

Want to try Profhilo and love your skin again with this revolutionary treatment? Book today with Birmingham’s most trusted Profhilo clinicians!

10 things you need to know about Profhilo

Thinking about trying the hugely popular Profhilo? Well, we’ve got the lowdown on this treatment, available at our Birmingham medical skin and cosmetic clinic!

1 – Profhilo is part of our injectables range

Profhilo is a hyaluronic acid (HA) based injectable, primarily used for tackling skin laxity and boosting hydration!

2 – And is more than just an “injectable moisturiser”

Profhilo made a name for itself as an “injectable moisturiser”, but we think it’s more than that! It is also a bio-remodeller, which offers significant tissue improvement for a tightening and lifting effect on the skin. Patients love the natural but noticeable results they see after this treatment!

3 – Profhilo can be used on the face and body

Although most commonly known for its anti-ageing effects on the face, Profhilo can also be used on the body, including the neck, decolletage, upper arms, abdomen, thighs and more.

4 – Profhilo stimulates collagen production

This is what keeps us looking naturally youthful! As we age (after 25), collagen production slows down, but Profhilo stimulates it again over the course of 28 days following treatment, due to the slow release of hyaluronic acid.

5 – Profhilo makes a great alternative to other injectables

Many patients see Profhilo as a great alternative to other injectables, including dermal fillers or anti-wrinkle injections, or try out Profhilo as an introduction to aesthetics.

6 – It can be used in combination with other treatments

We love an iconic treatment combo here at Dermoperfection, and some of the treatments that complement and enhance Profhilo include DiamondGlow facials, PCA Skin skin peels and even dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections.

7 – Profhilo is a “lunchtime treatment”

Typically, a Profhilo session lasts around 30 minutes, so you can fit it into your busy schedule! There is also little downtime associated with this treatment, so you can resume normal life afterwards.

8 – Results from Profhilo last up to 6 months

We usually recommend a course of two treatments a month apart, so you can see results for up to 6 months, making it non-permanent but highly effective! You can then book in top-ups to maintain incredible results.

9 – Profhilo won Best Injectable Product at the 2022 Aesthetics Awards

Don’t just take our word for it when it comes to Profhilo – it is a multi-award winning treatment that has also been dubbed “the most exciting development in injectable treatments in a long time.”

10 – We have offered Profhilo here at Dermoperfection for 5 years

This year we celebrated 5 years of Profhilo at our Birmingham clinic, and pride ourselves in being amongst the city’s most trusted Profhilo clinicians!

Nothing beats experience when it comes to all aesthetic treatments, so don’t settle for any less than the best – come visit Dermoperfection and bring back your glow with Profhilo.

The skincare trends from 2022 that are here to stay

As we come to the end of another big year, we want to look at all the treatment and skincare trends that will still be popular in 2023 and beyond!

And where better to go for this than Dermoperfection? You can find us at our purpose-built clinic in The Mailbox, with the best clinicians in Birmingham here to start your treatment journey.

The trends we loved this year include:

Profhilo

Profhilo has created an enormous buzz this year, with patients loving how they can not only boost the skin’s hydration with this “injectable moisturiser” but also achieve rejuvenation for a youthful appearance.

This is seen as a great alternative or a starter treatment to other injectables, including dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections. We have always prided ourselves on creating natural but noticeable results!

Fillers beyond volume

Fillers have typically been associated with volumising the lips, and often with “trout pouts” – however, our expert clinicians will only inject 0.5ml-1ml per session, to keep your lips looking natural whilst creating your desired look.

But fillers have more uses than this – they also fill fine lines and wrinkles, create definition to the cheekbones and jawline, and can even correct bumps in the nose. You can combine multiple treatment goals in one appointment – ask us when we create your bespoke treatment plan!

Lunchtime treatments

As we returned to more “normality” this year, we know your lives have been busier – but that didn’t mean sacrificing great treatments! Many of our most in-demand treatments take half an hour or less, and we anticipate even more of you fitting us into your busy schedule.

Popular lunchtime treatments include Profhilo, dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle injections, microneedling, ULTRAcel Q+ HIFU and more. These come with minimal downtime too, so you can resume normal life as soon as you leave our clinic!

Men’s treatments

The stereotype of looking after your skin being “girly” is long gone – around 40% of our patients are men, and they are loving how our treatment range is suited to what they want for their skin!

A few popular choices for men include dermal fillers (for creating a chiselled, masculine look), DiamondGlow (for clearing out dirt and debris for a healthier complexion) and INTRAcel Pro (for tackling acne).

SPFs/retinols

We love how the focus has been turned to protecting your skin against future ageing – and there has been a huge emphasis on daily use of SPFs and retinols across the internet.

Here at Dermoperfection, we often advise on using SPFs after particular treatments, including microneedling and skin peels, but it’s even better to keep your skin protected every day. We are an Obagi ambassador clinic, and also PCA Skin’s flagship store in Birmingham, so you know you’re only getting the best brands for your skincare needs!

Choosing experience over cheapness

Buy cheap, buy twice is definitely true of treatments – so we are so glad that people are willing to pay the extra to guarantee an experienced team like ours, and think this will be much more than just a trend for the future!

We never sell you unnecessary products or treatments, will ensure natural results (you can always book top-ups when it’s safe to do so) and tailor each treatment to your individual needs and goals. Feel free to ask us any questions before or during your appointment too!

Do you think these trends are set to last? And what other skincare trends do you think will become timeless?

So, if you want to see your best skin yet, and unlock confidence ready for the new year, book now at Dermoperfection’s medical skin and cosmetic clinic.

What is alopecia and how is it treated at Dermoperfection?

Did you know we can treat alopecia at Dermoperfection’s medical skin and cosmetic clinic right here in Birmingham?

Approximately 1 in 50 people will suffer from alopecia areata in their lifetime – this is regardless of gender, race or age, although many develop this before they turn 30.

There are 3 main types of alopecia:

Alopecia areata: Alopecia is the medical term for hair loss, areata means patch. This type of alopecia refers to baldness appearing anywhere on the body; from the scalp, beard, brows, and lashes to the wider bodyparts such as legs and armpits.

Alopecia totalis: Loss of all hair to the scalp

Alopecia universalis: Total loss of hair, globally.

Alopecia is a condition of the immune system, where hair follicles are attacked by white blood cells, resulting in them shrinking and stopping hair production. Patches are usually oval and small when they first appear, growing in size as the alopecia progresses. Genetics are known to play a part in alopecia development.

Milly, one of Dermoperfection’s patients, has told us about her treatment journey for alopecia:

“I was first diagnosed with alopecia ten years ago. After losing half a head of my blonde hair and confidence whilst trying every hair loss treatment available to me on the market, l had nearly given up all hope of recovery. I knew the trigger for alopecia was thought to be stress, but in truth, there is very little evidence that factually outlines the causes and stimulus for alopecia areata.

“Throughout my hair loss journey, I visited world-leading trichologists, bought every vitamin supplement under the sun, and even quit my high-powered media job in London, moving back to the country and retraining to be a nurse to try to live a more settled and structured life. I couldn’t find evidence of any treatment that worked until one-day, l came across a medical report documenting the hair growth experienced by alopecia candidates who trialled steroid injections to the scalp in collaboration with the oral steroid Predisalone.

“I was hesitant at first; I knew the contra-indications associated with steroids, such as a weakened immune system and weight gain, however, l was desperate. I put my faith in this new treatment and miraculously it worked! After the second treatment of topical steroid injections and two weeks’ worth of Predisalone, new fuzzy baby hair covered my bald patches! I also did not experience any weight gain and my immune system seemed to cope brilliantly.

I had trusted Stu at Dermoperfection with all aspects of my aesthetic treatments before and so knew he was the go-to professional to help me with my hair growth journey. Stu explained how steroids suppress the immune cells that are attacking hair follicles so that hair can regrow. And grow it did! To date, Dermoperfection has cured every bald patch l have developed and provided empathetic aftercare and emotional support throughout the process. No other practitioner l can recommend more highly than Stu at Dermoperfection. I am incredibly grateful for his kindness and hard work in facilitating my recovery.”

Don’t let anything hold you back – if you would like to treat alopecia and regain your confidence with Dermoperfection, book a consultation with us today.

Patient journey with Cosmelan at Dermoperfection

Mesoestetic Cosmelan is a revolutionary treatment that your skin deserves!

Want a truly effective solution to melasma, age spots, sun spots, superficial scars and uneven skin tone? Try Cosmelan’s skin peel, which is suitable for all skin tones and types, and produces life-changing, long-term results!

Requiring 10-12 days recovery time, this trademarked depigmentation solution promotes freshly healed healthy skin after a short period of intense peeling.

Cosmelan targets the root cause of pigmentation, inhibiting the overproduction of tyrosinase so your skin remains beautifully clear in the months following treatment.

What’s the experience of Cosmelan like for the patient though? Milly, who visited Dermoperfection for this treatment, says this:

“I can advocate for the transformative effects Cosmelan had upon my skin after trialling the treatment four months ago. My pigmentation issues came from years of using hair removal creams and laser treatments. I felt insecure and self-conscious about these markings on my face, so consequently would never go anywhere without foundation and heavy powder to cover these imperfections.

I visited Stu at Demoperfection for my initial Cosmelan consultation. Stu prescribed Cosmelan 1 (the initial skin peel) and Cosmelan 2 (the follow-up products). I had read up extensively on the intensity of the skin peel, along with the rave reviews of people across the world recommending the treatments, so I felt confident in my decision to proceed.

Stu double-cleansed my skin to ensure the procedure was sterile. He then applied the thick mud-like coating of Cosmelan 1. I was worried l would feel some discomfort but in truth, the product smelt nice and goes on like any other mask, cooling and soothing. I was instructed to leave the product on my skin for 12 hours, it slowly dried and flaked, l washed off the residue and went to bed. Throughout the weeks that followed l adhered to phase 2, at-home treatments, these included the following.

Cosmelan 2: home depigmenting cream that intensifies the results of cosmelan 1, keeping melanin production under control and preventing the appearance of new skin spots.

Melan recovery: balm with soothing and restoring effect for sensitive and reddened skin. It helps soothe and restore the skin’s balance and comfort during the Cosmelan treatment.

Melan 130 pigment control: sunscreen with colour that helps control pigmentation. It protects the skin from broad-spectrum solar radiation and helps control skin pigmentation.

I was grateful for the masks l wore to work as a nurse, my skin did redden, flake and felt tight when l smiled or frowned. I kept my soothing balm with me at all times and rather than rubbing or picking at the skin, which can cause scarring, l simply applied the balm and avoided any makeup.

Just as Stu had promised, after two weeks of peeling, a fresh, dewy skin shone through. The pigmentation above my upper lip l felt so embarrassed about was gone! The laser marks people previously had commented on had vanished, and my skin felt resurfaced. Today l wear the Mesoestetic sunscreen provided as part of the full Cosmelan treatment. l still don’t wear foundation and the compliments l receive about my skin have boosted my confidence. I can fully appreciate why Cosmelan receives 5-star reviews and acclaim across the world!”

If you would like to see the incredible effects from Cosmelan for yourself, get in touch and book a consultation with Birmingham’s most trusted clinicians at Dermoperfection’s medical skin and cosmetic clinic!

Common men’s skin concerns and Dermoperfection’s solutions

Everybody’s skin is different and deserves a bespoke treatment plan – especially when it’s created by Dermoperfection’s expert clinicians!

And as November is Men’s Health Awareness Month, we are looking at the skin concerns that commonly affect men and how to treat them at our Birmingham medical skin and cosmetic clinic.

This includes:

Oily skin and acne – oil production in men’s skin tends to be double that of women’s, and that in turn can result in acne. This can especially be noticed underneath and around facial hair, and on the back. Some ways this can be treated includes:

  • DiamondGlow facial
  • INTRAcel Pro
  • Professional skin peels e.g., PCA Skin NoPeel Peel

Photoageing and hyperpigmentation – if you have had more exposure to the sun due to lifestyle, or don’t apply daily SPF, you may have noticed the appearance of age spots, lines and hyperpigmentation. However, this can be tackled with:

  • Mesoestetic Microneedling
  • INTRAcel Pro
  • Obagi Nu Derm

Fine lines and wrinkles – although fine lines and wrinkles are a common sign of ageing for everyone, men tend to have deeper and more severe wrinkles than women. We have plenty of treatments for this at Dermoperfection, which we dub “bro-esthetics”, such as:

  • Profhilo
  • Anti-wrinkle injections
  • Dermal fillers (Juvederm and Aliaxin)
  • ULTRAcel Q+

Dark circles – whether its genetics, sleeping habits, sun exposure or ageing has given you dark circles under the eyes, we know they can make you feel self-conscious. So, we recommend:

  • Dermal fillers
  • Professional skin peels
  • Obagi/PCA Skin products

Hair loss – there’s many reasons why you may experience hair loss – this can be hereditary, hormonal changes, medical conditions or simply ageing. However, we have a Mesoestetic Microneedling solution for this, which can revitalise and strengthen your hair!

Do you want to restore confidence in your skin again? Speak to us! We welcome many male patients to our clinic, who want to see a real difference when it comes to looking after their skin.

You won’t find a more trustworthy clinic for your treatments – we have over 40 years’ experience between us, so book a free consultation with our team today.
