What is Laser Tattoo Removal? Laser tattoo removal is a medical procedure using lasers to meticulously break down the ink particles within a tattoo. This facilitates the body’s natural elimination of the ink through the lymphatic system.

At The Laser Fix, we proudly utilise the cutting-edge Cosmedic Lasers ND-YAG Q-Switched Machine, striking the perfect balance between a Q-Switched ND-YAG and a Picosecond machine.

Our equipment stands out for its remarkable capabilities! The device features a handle with an air cooler head, ensuring a cooling effect on the epidermis to minimise discomfort and thermal damage, enhancing your overall experience. Experience the beauty of advanced technology at The Laser Fix.

Laser tattoo removal FAQs

  • Can laser tattoo removal be done on black skin?

Yes, laser tattoo removal can be performed on black skin! Darker skin has higher melanin content, making it more prone to hyperpigmentation after laser treatments.

Q-switched lasers are often preferred for removing tattoos on black skin, as they are less likely to cause hyperpigmentation. Book a consultation with The Laser Fix to determine the most effective and safe treatment options for your skin.

  • Does the procedure hurt?

Pain varies from client to client. Our advanced medical graded system has a very short pulse and is less painful in comparison to alternative systems!

  • Should I use numbing cream/pain relief?

Any discomfort that you experience is not the laser beam hitting the skin, it’s the ink shattering. Pre-numbing the area will not numb the skin that is being targeted. We kindly ask that you do not pre-numb at home as this can cause a bad reaction to the laser.

  • How can I expect my tattoo to look during the healing process?

During the healing stage, you can expect to see the pigment become darker or lighter. It may become darker before it gets lighter, but in general you will see a reduction in the shade of the ink.

Different colours may also appear in the skin during the healing stage. Some parts of the tattoo may fade more than others. This is all normal and to be expected.

  • Can I remove my coloured tattoos?

Yes, this laser system is effective for removing coloured tattoos! The advanced technology we utilise is designed to target a wide range of tattoo pigments, including coloured inks.

The success of the removal process can depend on factors such as specific colours used in the tattoo, your skin type, and the tattoo’s age.

  • How often should I come?

In general we will treat every 6 – 10 weeks. It isn’t advised to wait longer than 12 weeks between sessions.

  • Can I have laser tattoo removal during the summer months?

Sun exposure can increase the risk of complications like hyperpigmentation or changes in skin colour after the treatment. It’s advised to avoid direct sun exposure to the treated area for a few weeks before and after each session.

Consider scheduling your laser tattoo removal sessions at The Laser Fix during a time when you can minimise sun exposure. Follow the aftercare instructions provided by your practitioner to ensure proper healing and reduce the risk of adverse effects.

  • How many sessions will I need?

Typically, body tattoos may require 6-8 sessions, while eyebrow tattoo removal may require 2-4 sessions.

  • Will the laser affect my hair growth?

The laser beam won’t destroy the hair follicle and stop growth, but it can temporarily disable the melanin. The hair can go white until the colour comes back. We typically do lensless laser on eyebrows which means no lightening of the hair!

  • Can my microbladed eyebrows be removed safely without scarring?

Yes, removing microblading is a procedure that can be undertaken safely with our YAG Q-Switched machine!

The advanced technology of this machine allows for precise and effective removal of microblading pigments, due to our “lensless” option for facial cosmetic tattoo removal, downtime is very minimal post-procedure.

Laser tattoo removal aftercare

You will have a detailed copy of your aftercare to follow after your appointment, but here are few main pointers of what to expect:

Day 1: keep the area dry and free from any products for a minimum of 3 hours. After this time, you can apply aloe vera gel to soothe the treated area.

Avoid make-up or tight clothing against the treated area for 72 hours post treatment.

Keep the area hydrated. Drink at least 3 litres of water a day to help excrete the ink particles through the lymphatic system.

Apply SPF to the area DAILY!

UV exposure must be avoided for a minimum of 30 days post treatment.
