Aesthetic Treatment Aftercare Guides

Good aesthetic treatment aftercare helps you heal comfortably and get the best, longest-lasting results. On this page you’ll find downloadable aftercare guides for treatments at our Birmingham clinic, general tips by treatment type, and clear advice on when to contact us. Always follow the specific instructions your practitioner gave you at your appointment.

Why Aesthetic Treatment Aftercare Matters

Most treatments cause some short-lived redness, swelling or bruising. The right aftercare keeps these to a minimum and lowers the risk of infection. It also protects your results, so you get full value from your treatment. In addition, knowing what’s normal helps you spot anything that needs a quick check.

General Aftercare Tips by Treatment

These tips cover the basics. However, your own guide always comes first, because advice can differ between products and treatment areas.

 Anti-wrinkle injections

For the rest of the day, avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area. Stay upright for about four hours, and skip strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol for 24 hours. Results appear gradually, so wait two weeks before judging them. Read more about anti-wrinkle injections.

Dermal fillers and skin boosters

Swelling and tenderness are common for a few days. Keep the area clean, avoid make-up for 24 hours, and avoid heat, alcohol and hard exercise for 24 to 48 hours. Don’t press on the area unless your practitioner told you to. This applies to dermal fillers, Profhilo and polynucleotides.

Microneedling, laser and energy-based treatments

After SQT Bio Microneedling, INTRAcel Pro, CO2 laser or ULTRAcel Q+, your skin needs gentle care. Use a mild cleanser and moisturiser, and pause retinoids and exfoliating acids until your practitioner says it’s safe. Above all, wear SPF 30 or higher every day, because treated skin burns easily.

Body contouring

After EMSCULPT NEO or EMTONE, muscles may ache as if you’ve had a hard workout. Drink plenty of water and keep active, as this supports your results.
