P-R-P Hair
At a Glance
Are you struggling with hair loss or thinning hair? At Dermoperfection, we are delighted to offer P-R-P treatment for hair restoration. P-R-P therapy is a groundbreaking procedure that utilises your body’s natural healing properties to promote hair growth and improve the thickness and quality of your hair.
What is P-R-P Therapy for Hair?
P-R-P treatment for hair is a non-surgical and minimally invasive procedure that harnesses the power of platelets found in your blood. Platelets contain growth factors that stimulate cell regeneration and repair. During the treatment, a small sample of your blood is drawn, and the P-R-P is extracted and prepared. This concentrated P-R-P is then injected into the scalp, targeting areas of hair loss or thinning to stimulate dormant hair follicles, promote new hair growth and improve hair quality.
How Does P-R-P Therapy Work for Hair Loss?
Platelets contain growth factors that are thought to promote hair growth and strengthen hair follicles. When injected into the scalp, P-R-P is believed to stimulate dormant hair follicles, prolong the hair growth cycle and reduce hair shedding.
Procedure steps
- Blood Collection: A small amount of blood (typically around 20-60ml) is drawn
- Centrifugation: The blood is then placed in a centrifuge to separate the P-R-P from other blood components.
- P-R-P Collection: After centrifugation, the P-R-P, which is now in a concentrated form, is collected and prepared for injection.
- Scalp Injection: The P-R-P is injected into the areas of the scalp where hair loss or thinning is occurring. The injections are typically performed using a fine needle or a dermaroller.
Treatment duration and frequency
P-R-P hair treatment is usually performed as a series of sessions spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart.
After the initial series of treatments, maintenance sessions may be recommended every 3 to 6 months, depending on individual response and hair growth progress.
Side effects and results
- P-R-P therapy for hair loss is generally considered safe, with minimal risk of adverse reactions since it uses the patient’s own blood.
- Mild discomfort, redness or temporary swelling at the injection sites may occur but should resolve quickly.
- Results vary from person to person, and some individuals may notice improvements in hair density and thickness within a few months of treatment.

What is P-R-P?
P-R-P treatment involves extracting a small amount of your blood and isolating the P-R-P. This plasma contains growth factors and proteins that, when used for aesthetic purposes, enhance your skin’s appearance.
What is P-R-P used for?
P-R-P treatment has two main uses:
- Rejuvenation – P-R-P is loved for skin health, as it stimulates collagen production, improves skin texture and reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars and hyperpigmentation.
- Hair loss – when injected into the scalp, P-R-P targets areas of hair loss or thinning, stimulates dormant hair follicles, promotes new hair growth and improves hair quality.
Who is P-R-P for?
P-R-P is the ideal treatment for those looking for a natural rejuvenation or hair loss treatment, as it utilises what’s already in your body!
How many P-R-P treatments will I need?
This is dependent on your treatment plan, however we recommend an initial course of 3 sessions for maximised results. We can also book maintenance sessions following this, as advised by our medical injectors.
When will I see results from my P-R-P treatment?
For P-R-P rejuvenation, you will see an instant boost to the skin in the first week after treatment, which continues to improve in the 1-2 months following this.
P-R-P hair results take slightly longer to first appear, with changes to hair growth noticed after 4-6 weeks.
How long do P-R-P results last?
Patients LOVE the long-lasting results achieved by P-R-P, with effects seen for up to 2 years!
Does P-R-P hurt?
As with all injectable treatments, you may feel slight discomfort during the treatment, and some soreness following, however this soon subsides. In fact, many patients report it’s less painful than expected!
Is P-R-P safe?
P-R-P is a low risk procedure with no usual major side effects. We recommend staying hydrated and eating healthy in the run-up to your appointment so your plasma is the best it can be!
We use Arthrex P-R-P at our Birmingham clinic, with their double syringe system guaranteeing the purest quality P-R-P.
