Botox: What you need to know

At Dermoperfection Medical Clinic, we are proud to provide the best Botox treatment in Birmingham. Offering safe and effective botulinum toxin anti-wrinkle injections that are only prescribed by our highly-experienced clinical team of aesthetic practitioners, you are in safe, expert hands.

Botox is the original toxin, and the most extensively studied and researched neurotoxin. It is the most trusted anti-wrinkle cosmetic injectable treatment on the market, used and trusted by millions of patients every year to achieve a more youthful, anti-aged and energised appearance.

Botox works as a muscle relaxant by temporarily reducing activity in the facial muscles responsible for facial lines like frown lines, forehead furrows and crow’s feet. Expression lines are smoothed, creating a younger, rejuvenated look with natural results.

With tens of thousands of treatments undertaken, our highly experienced team of qualified healthcare medical practitioners brings over 57 years of combined experience in healthcare and 35 years in the field of aesthetic medicine. We are the destination for authentic Allergan Botox treatments in Birmingham.

Alongside the treatment for lines and wrinkles, Botox is also a widely used non-surgical treatment for jawline slimming and facial feature slimming (Masseter Botox) and excessive sweating.

We use our expertise in our Birmingham city centre, CQC-registered and rated medical clinic to assess each patient’s unique facial features and create a customised treatment plan. Our treatment planning is targeted to each patient’s concerns and desired results using Botox injectables.

What do we offer Botox for?

At our Birmingham city centre Botox clinic we specialise in anti-wrinkle injections for:

  • Jawline reshaping (Masseter Botox): using Botox to slim the jawline caused by an overactive masseter muscle.
  • Frown lines: reducing the appearance of static grooves between the brows.
  • Forehead lines: relaxing the muscles responsible for horizontal lines.
  • Crow’s feet: softening the look of fine lines around the corners of the eyes.
  • Bunny lines: treating the small lines that form either side of the bridge of the nose.
  • Non-surgical brow lift: using Botox to relax the frown muscles and lift the weight that pushes the brow downward.
  • Platysmal neck bands: using Botox in the neck to lift the face and relax neck lines.
  • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating): using Botox to reduce sweating in areas like the armpits.

Baby Botox

Baby Botox is a popular treatment where we expertly adapt the dosage, using very small amounts of Botox to give subtle, mild effects that improve lines and wrinkles. The concept behind treating this way is to introduce minimal amounts of the botulinum toxin to provide a natural-looking result, whilst ensuring natural facial movement and animation are undisturbed.

Baby Botox is very popular among our younger patients looking to prevent the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles occurring.

Botox for crow’s feet

Often referred to as ‘smile lines’, crow’s feet are wrinkles that form when the muscle around the outer aspect of the eyes is activated. Crow’s feet are often noticed as one of the first signs of ageing.

Botox injections can be extremely effective for this area: once the muscle that causes crow’s feet is relaxed, the visible lines smooth out.

Botox for frown lines

The use of Botox for frown lines is one of the most popular treatments in clinic. Frown lines, also called glabellar lines or ‘elevens’, are the vertical lines that occur between the eyebrows from frowning. This is the downward expression movement of the eyebrow muscles (the corrugator muscle), typically shaping lines like the number 1 on one side or the number 11. We often call these concentration lines, particularly a concern for those of us who have prolonged periods of using a computer, reading or focusing for long periods.

These expression lines can change to static lines that can become permanent as the skin loses its elasticity after frowning, often leaving people with an angry or worried look when this is the opposite to how they feel. Skin loses its natural elasticity with the ageing process as collagen and elastin within the skin’s structure break down. Other major factors are sun exposure, smoking, poor diet and environmental factors that attack our skin daily. Botox treatment in Birmingham is really effective for frown lines: by marking the muscle’s peak point of contraction and injecting Botox to relax the muscles used for frowning, we smooth out the lines and wrinkles and create a more relaxed expression and happier appearance.

Botox for forehead lines

Another popular treatment with Botox is treating lines on the forehead. It is extremely effective at relaxing the horizontal lines that affect the forehead, which are formed from expression movements: dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated raising of the eyebrows. Raising the eyebrows is a normal and natural movement.

At Dermoperfection in Birmingham, we understand that forehead lines can be a very common concern. Horizontal creases appear when we engage our forehead muscles to express surprise, and are often the result of repeated eyebrow-raising. We engage our forehead muscles hundreds of times a day; this gradually wears into the skin and causes dynamic lines, some of which may become static and visible without eyebrow movement.

We recommend the treatment of lines and wrinkles with Botox at our clinic in Birmingham. When will I see results and how long will they last?

Botox works by temporarily blocking the chemical signals that tell muscles to contract. Botox injections are most commonly used to relax the muscles responsible for wrinkles from expression or movement, such as frown lines, smokers’ lines and smile lines, causing these expression lines to smooth out. Results are usually seen after 7 to 14 days; for more detail, see our guide on how long Botox takes to work.

Patients may resume daily activities shortly after the procedure, as the treatment is generally considered quick and safe. Results become noticeable in the days to weeks following treatment, with the full effect often visible a few weeks after the procedure.

At our Birmingham aesthetics clinic, our goal is natural-looking results: we want to improve the appearance of the skin, fine lines and wrinkles whilst preserving sufficient facial movement for a natural look.

The effects of Botox are temporary; patients usually have a top-up treatment every 3-4 months to maintain their results. Read more about how long Botox lasts.

Who will perform my Botox treatment?

We are a professional, experienced medical team of highly-qualified, registered clinical healthcare professionals at Dermoperfection Medical Clinic in Birmingham, who are all specialists in the natural-looking treatment of lines and wrinkles with Botox. We’re renowned for premium quality and delivering results while maintaining a natural look. All patients have a consultation prior to Botox to ensure they receive a safe, high-quality treatment.

The process begins with an initial consultation, where your practitioner will assess your facial muscle activity and individual concerns. They’ll take your medical history, discuss your skin concerns and goals, and create a bespoke Botox treatment plan outlining your anticipated results.

Our clinicians take photographs before and after your treatment for your records. This enables us to monitor your Botox results, lets you see your progress, and ensures we’ve achieved the optimum result for you.

Does Botox hurt?

The skill and experience of our clinicians make a real difference to your Botox treatment, which is usually very comfortable and described by the majority of patients as painless. For added comfort, we use extra-fine needles and the treatment is completed quickly. We describe the sensation of being injected with Botox as a slight scratch, and at many of the injection points you won’t feel anything at all. It’s extremely well tolerated and no local anaesthetic is required, though numbing cream can be applied beforehand if you prefer. There is no downtime after Botox treatment, though there are a few simple things to be aware of, so see what not to do after Botox and our full Botox aftercare guide.

Is there any reason I couldn’t have Botox?

If you have a medical condition, it’s important to disclose this during your consultation with your clinician to avoid any complications. Dermoperfection does not offer Botox treatment to patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding. While there are no clinical studies showing that Botox is harmful to the baby or mother, medical professionals would not treat patients in these circumstances. For any other health concerns, it’s important to see a qualified practitioner and be properly assessed for suitability.

Am I a suitable candidate for Botox?

Botox is widely used among various patients, particularly those looking to diminish expression lines like frown lines and crow’s feet. It can also be effective for rebalancing facial features, such as lifting a sagging brow or refining a heavy jawline, and for addressing issues like persistent teeth grinding or excessive sweating. It’s essential to have a comprehensive consultation with a qualified practitioner to determine if Botox is right for you.

During your consultation, a skilled doctor or nurse will thoroughly evaluate your concerns and explain the outcomes you can anticipate. Patient satisfaction is our top priority, and we would only recommend Botox if we believe it aligns with your goals. Results can vary from person to person. The primary objective is to enhance your appearance by smoothing lines and wrinkles, offering an effective, non-invasive option for facial rejuvenation at our city centre clinic, Dermoperfection The Mailbox in Birmingham.
